Sentencing for Rose scheduled for July 19 FROM WIRE REPORTS Pete Rose will learn in about two weeks whether he goes to prison. U.S. District judge yesterday set July 19 as the date for Rose's sentencing on felony tax charges. Rose faces up to six years in jail and a maximum $500,000 fine after admitting he filed false income tax returns.

U.S. District Judge S. Arthur Spiegel has a lot of leeway in sentencing Rose, who pleaded guilty to two tax charges as part of an agreement with federal prosecutors. Rose admitted he failed to report income from his autograph appearances, memorabilia sales and gambling. Rose, the former Cincinnati Reds manager banned from baseball for life in August for illegal gambling, has been keeping a low profile while awaiting sentencing.

He has spent most of his time at his winter home in Plant City, commuting to Cincinnati to do a weekly radio show and to get treatment for a gambling disorder. Basketball DA man identifying himself as an attorney and part-time sports agent interrupted a news conference held to announce Sleepy Floyd's -year contract extension with the Houston Rockets. Jerry R. Bonney burst into the conference room and yelled for several minutes before being arrested. Bonney claimed he was being excluded from the news conference because the Rockets alleged he was a drug dealer.

He was not carrying a weapon, and there were no injuries.
